Diary: an opinion poll and change of home for Alan Collins’ Political Opinions
Friday 23rd March, 2007
It seems as though my diary is becoming more frequent on this blog than my opinions, but my diary entries are normally shorter. I am about to start writing a post on the local elections, and my post about party funding will be completed sometime this weekend. In the mean time, I shall talk about another opinion poll which puts Cameron’s Conservatives on top again.
After Gordon Brown’s very Political budget, commentators have been waiting for the first opinion poll to signify how much people now liked Mr. Brown, because he has acted to make them seem like they are going to be better off after his tax cuts, when he has in fact, using even stealthier tax rises and boundary changes, screwed the nation over for a tenth year running. It was not to be.
The Daily Telegraph’s YouGov Poll indicates an increase in support for David Cameron to the tune of 39% (an increase of 1%), while Labour have lost support of 1% to 31%. The Liberals have also dropped 1% to 15% while the miscellaneous “others” also achieved 15%. This is quite worrying when the “others” include not only the SNP, Plaid Cymru and UKIP (to name a few), but also the British National Party, the media’s continued pet hate.
The significance of this particular poll can be properly assesed when further polls are published in the coming days; although the biggest indicator will of course be the Local, Scottish and Welsh elections in May.
One thing that I am deeply annoyed by is the timing with which Paul Clark has decided to come into school.
Callan finally got a phone call from his office (people who seem to be becoming slacker by the hour) after waiting for over a week for a response, and was told that Paul Clark can only make Thursday 19th April, while I am in Florida!
I am not completely annoyed , though, as at the same time that my class mates are being bored by his monotone drone, I will be working hard, sweating buckets, possibly losing parts of my body, and sunning myself in the glorious surroundings of Lakeland.
There’s no comparison really.
I have also moved the blog, in line with a move for another of my websites, and upgraded to the latest version of the blog software. Due to this, the previous layout no longer works. I may try to fix this at a later date, but until then, the layout I am using now looks quite good – and is blue!
