Medway Messenger
Local Government
Your councillor will be listening to you
I MUST congratulate Cllr Rehman Chishti (Rainham Central) on becoming the youngest Medway Council member ever, when he assumed his role as portfolio holder for Community Safety and Enforcement.
How refreshing it is that, although the Labour Group leader joked at the annual meeting of the council about the ages of Medway’s Conservative councillors, an enthusiastic councillor under the age of 30 has taken this important position.
I hear Cllr Chishti has dived head first into his new role by holding a street stall in Chatham, to listen to the concerns of the public. Judging by Cllr Chishti’s record of hard work and results, after all, his campaigning delivered CCTV cameras in the Strand, I have faith that residents of Medway will be able to sleep a little safer at night while he is on the case.
Alan Collins,
Goudhurst Road, Gillingham
