Right then, I’m off
Posted by Alan Collins on Friday, July 27th, 2007 at 22:50
This is just a quick note from me to tell you that from now until August 4 I shall not be blogging.
I am off to an RAF station with the Air Cadets for our Annual Summer Camp (though I am reliably informed that the tents we were supposed to have been sleeping in were last seen floating past the sports area, so we shall be in permanent accomodation) and intend to have a wonderful time whilst I am there.
In the mean time, you may have seen that I have almost finished adding the details of Councillors in Gillingham and Rainham (I decided not to continue that courtesy to Medway) and should be able to complete them on my return next Saturday. I have also started to add Ward profiles (with a little help from another site which I look after), though have only finished Watling Ward.
There is plenty of content for you to look at while I am away - and don’t forget you can still email me while I am away - I will endeavour to reply as quickly as possible on my return.

Husien to remain in the UK
Posted by Alan Collins on Monday, July 23rd, 2007 at 12:11

AFTER two months of painful campaigning and three weeks of an agonising wait following an appeal hearing, Afghanistan-born Husien Panahi has discovered he will not be forced to return to Afghanistan.
As reported elsewhere on this blog, Husien Panahi had discovered that his visa would not be renewed in May, and appealed the decision three weeks ago.

Conservative Councillors go green with low-energy light bulbs
Posted by Alan Collins on Wednesday, July 18th, 2007 at 19:01

RAINHAM North Councillors Vaughan Hewett and David Carr were so enthused by David Cameron’s efforts to make the Conservative Party and their Councils green, that they have bought all 33 Medway Conservative Councillors an energy saving light bulb so that they are the greenest group of councillors in Medway.
They gave bulbs as gifts to their colleagues at a group meeting held Monday, July 2 at the Strood Civic Centre.

Will Boris Johnson be good for London?
Posted by Alan Collins on Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 at 20:43

BORIS Johnson finally revealed yesterday that he would enter his name into the race to become the Conservative Party’s London Mayoral candidate.
Johnson is notorious for his reputation as being “one of those rarest of politicians who seem to be able to get away with anything”, according to a senior Conservative Party source, with statements such as “[Portsmouth is] too full of drugs, obesity, underachievment and Labour MPs.”
However, Johnson has stated that he “will stand for a greater London and for putting the smile back on London’s face” and I believe that he will be good for London, although it may take a while for the leaf to be completely turned over.

Bob Marshall-Andrews will stand down at the next election
Posted by Alan Collins on Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 at 15:00

AFTER weeks of speculation, Bob Marshall-Andrews today officially announced that he will not be standing again at the next General Election.
The serial Labour rebel - who famously announced that he had lost the last election and blamed Tony Blair and Iraq, just to discover he had won with a majority of 213 (the 11th smallest majority of the current Parliament) - has represented Medway for the last ten years after overturning the 8,786 vote majority (when he came second in 1992) into a 5,354 vote majority in 1997.
