Well, it has been confirmed today that Boris is indeed the Conservative choice for London Mayor.

Funnily enough, the more I think about the idea the more I come to accept that it could well work. It is the oddity of the position itself (i.e. a directly elected mayor) that makes Boris such a good choice, especially after watching the present incumbent in action at "teh gherkin" on BBC Parliament and elsewhere.

Red Ken has done many things to bring his office into disrepute, or very nearly so in some cases, and Boris is perceived by most if not all to be far more open and straight. However bumbling his outward persona might be, he is a lot more shrewd than his tabloid image suggests -- but not devious, lefty or otherwise unappealing to the majority of Londoners.

The next London Mayoral Election should be very interesting!
