End of week review: we don’t want a jock running our Country
Posted by Alan Collins on Sunday, September 30th, 2007 at 20:32

IN WORDS I shall never forget, my week saw Paul Clark being shouted at by a passer-by, with a memorable quotation below, and a surprising result for Gillingham Football Club.

This week also saw a university freshers’ fair and a meeting to discuss our strategy for Twydall. And the Conference season has gotten underway in full swing.

This is the only poll that matters
Posted by Alan Collins on Friday, September 28th, 2007 at 08:07

THE Conservative Party won a by-election yesterday to take a seat from Labour on Sunderland Council, according to the BBC.

While opinion polls show support for Labour, the Conservatives took the seat with a swing of 3.7%. A further eight by-elections took place yesterday with a projected Conservative national lead of 6.2% over Labour.

Such a result at the next election, whenever called, would produce a hung parliament. And they say David Cameron has no reason to smile.

Boris Johnson elected Conservative London Mayoral candidate

Boris elected London Mayoral candidate

IT MUST have been an interesting meeting up at CCHQ. “What is the best way to get students on board?” the question may have been. “Students love freebies,” goes the response. “Hmm. Free Conservative balloons? Free Conservative keyrings, perhaps?” “Yes, but there is one thing guaranteed to get them on board…”

As we stood on the stall at the University freshers fair handing out “I *heart* Boris” badges (I told you, guaranteed…), we had no idea that Londoners had overwhelmingly chosen Boris as the Conservative London Mayoral candidate.

You can read the full version over at ConservativeHome, but basically the King of Clangers received 79.0% of the votes to become the only real opposition to “King Newt”, beating Victoria Borwick (9.4%), Andrew Boff (8.4%) and Warwick Lightfoot (3.1%).

All I can say is well done Boris. And good luck.

The great Yourmedway debate on Twydall
Posted by Alan Collins on Thursday, September 27th, 2007 at 20:47

YourMedwayBlogger

TWO weeks ago, I wrote a brief spiel about KOS Media launching eight new weekly free papers in Kent. Well I have just got my hands on issue 3 of Yourmedway - and discovered that there has already been a fierce debate from within its pages, sparked by a mystery blogger article in issue 2.

So why should this concern me and my quiet little blog? Well, firstly it is an interesting local issue - the first debate of the new paper, and secondly, the article in question was written about Twydall, “Medway’s forgotten estate”.

University freshers fair
Posted by Alan Collins on Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 at 13:17

I AM only blogging quickly on this topic, as I have just returned to school and am about to go to registration.

I have just returned from the freshers fair at the Universities at Medway, where I was helping out on the Conservative Party stall.

Alongside handing out freebies (students love freebies), I managed to get for myself a sticker for my window and an I love Boris badge.

I shall wear it with pride.

More on this later.
