Medway Messenger
Post office closures
MP is treating residents as idiots
AS A concerned resident of Gillingham and Rainham, I felt compelled to respond to Paul Clark MP’s letter about Gillingham post offices.
It reads as though Mr Clark is treating local residents as idiots – trying to persuade us that his government supports post offices while at the same time they are closing 2,500 post offices nationwide.
More worrying, though, is Mr Clark’s stance on Medway Magna’s proposals for Capstone Valley. It was the Conservative Party which was the first to oppose these proposals and the Conservative Council which has consistently opposed the proposals since their inception.
On the other hand, the two Labour MP’s have taken a different approach. Mr Clark and Jonathan Shaw have both added to their websites generic text on the monstrous Medway Magna threat, but would they really oppose such a development?
As minister for the South East, Mr Shaw is happy to agree to the Government continuing to concrete over the South East, and, as more house building targets are opposed [sic] on the South East, Capstone Valley becomes more threatened.
If there was a vote in Parliament, Mr Clark would most likely support building over Capstone Valley, dressing the proposals up as “right for the community” rather than face the wrath of the Labour Chief Whip.
In reality, Medway Magna Ltd is proposing a monstrous housing estate which would destroy the beautiful landscape between Darland Banks and the motorway and Rehman Chishti, Conservative Parliamentary spokesman for Gillingham and Rainham, is right to blame Prime Minister Brown for his three million homes target for the South East.
