End of week review: fluting, leafleting and walking for Churches
A FEW months ago, I wrote this post on my blog about people raising money to save our valued institutions: our churches.
So what better way to kick off my end-of-week review than by writing about my participation in a sponsored walk and bike ride for Friends of Kent Churches, amongst a review of the week’s political news and news from this blog.
Activities
This is the reason why I started this site – to inform you of what I am getting up to politically (and since socially) and the end of week review will primarily be about my week’s activities.
Well, Tuesday was when it all began for me: my last day before having to go back into school. So how was I to enjoy such a freedom? By going into school!
There is method behind my madness – I needed to go and plead with two teachers to let me carry on with their subjects. Once that was over and done with, it was time for some light leafleting in Twydall. Well, I say light leafleting – by the time I finished at 3.45 (I started at about 12-ish), I had gone through nearly 900 leaflets.
Wednesday was back at school properly – starting as I meant to go on: trying to work around the fact the technicians at school had managed to kill the network the previous week, holding my tongue in Politics despite the fact I wanted to argue Callan’s ridiculous points and trying not to fall asleep in Physics, before my third driving lesson (mastering stalling – a lot and mainly at mini-roundabouts – driving around Rainham and turning in the road).
Thursday and Friday were eventless (aside from finding a letter hidden in the Medway Messenger I had forgotten I had written), but Saturday was walking for Friends of Kent Churches – from St Mark’s Church, Gillingham to St Nicholas’ Church, Strood and back, taking in a total of 18 churches (in the order we got to them): Green Street Baptist Church, The Citadel, Gillingham URC, Salemof the Nazarene, St Barnabas, Beulah Christian Fellowship, St Augustine’s, All Saint’s, Emmaus Centre, Unitarian Chatham, Rochester Meeting House, Rochester Cathedral, St Nicholas Strood, St Margaret’s Rochester, St Peter’s Rochester, St Barbara’s (not recorded as no-one was around), St Luke’s Gillingham, St Mary Magdalene and then back to St Mark’s a total distance which I haven’t yet calculated, completed in about 5 hours and 20 minutes.
And then today it was Church in the morning then straight back home (well, almost – I took the scenic route to test how much my stamina and muscles have improved since I started cycling again five weeks ago) to loads of homework.
ACPO Network
This week, the ACPO Network officially came into being. It may sound important and exciting, but in reality it is simply the collection of my sites floating around in cyberspace.
All are linked to from the right sidebar: My Facebook, My Live Space, My Telegraph Blog, My Youtube Videos and MySpace on MySpace.
Today I completed the logo and colour scheme for all sites on which I can edit layout and colour schemes. Although today I only managed to change this site, my youtube and myspace pages will be altered in due course.
So please feel free to interact with any of the sites above by commenting (or networking where applicable), or just enjoy the content.
News
This week Madeleine McCann’s parents were declared formal suspects, or arguidos, and today returned home to a “less hostile” atmosphere.
Also this week locally, Gillingham Football Club manager Ronnie Jepson resigns (topical on this site for two obvious reasons) and Medway Council’s Cabinet agreed to set up a youth trust to provide advice and help to young people.
And all this in the week I finally revealed my intentions of learning to play the bagpipes to the world, accepted advice from various people to learn to play the flute first and am now borrowing my Dad’s flute (only one of two items in his possession I have come across that seem older than him) in order to start teaching myself (I do choose impossible tasks).
And don’t forget that, I may be a very busy boy now, but I will never stop blogging – so check back regularly and above all, enjoy!
