Conservatives are ready for a snap election

LAST week, I posted my anxiety surrounding a possible snap election. I said (quite validly) that, though we have been campaigning hard, a lot of seats are yet to select.

Well, today I discovered exactly what the situation is: we have a manifesto prepared, the first 72 hours of the Conservative campaign have been drafted – in detail, key donors are “ready to open their cheque books” and most of the key target seats have selected.

As for those that haven’t selected (ConservativeHome picked out three important ones – Rochester and Strood, Westmorland and Lonsdale and North East Cambs), well, they may end up having candidates imposed, which is, in my opinion, the right thing to do once an election is called as the time will need to be spent campaigning, not selecting a candidate.

Our biggest problem is that, whilst underneath the surface he is reversing Thatcherism and building a state-dependant Britain, Gordon Brown’s speech today was picked up by commentators as having stolen our policies.
