Campaigning for fixed-term Parliaments
I’ve said it before, but today I shall reaffirm my belief in fixed-term Parliaments.
In my rather complex (and potentially radical) Vision for a Greater Britain (viewable here), fixed-term Parliaments are my preferred step to a full written Constitution, agreed upon by the British people with at least 75% ‘yes’ votes.
That is why, today, I am announcing my official support for Fixed Term, in support of fixed terms at Westminster.
I shall keep you up-to-date with all the latest campaign news – all you need to do is bookmark the link “http://www.alanwcollins.co.uk/category/fixed-term/”, which I will add to the sidebar in due course – as well as present you with my alternative text to the Fixed Term Parliaments Bill, tabled by Lib Dem MPs David Howarth and David Heath.

I have wanted fixed-term parliaments for a number of years now, and have signed-up to a campaign for them.
I am pleased with Howarth and Heath’s proposals, and even more with your own additions and amendments.
Incidentally, I note another pair of Davids are involved in this. First it was Steel and Owen, more recently our own Cameron and Davis, and now these two. Do MPs named David always go around in pairs, I wonder…?
Anyway, let’s hope that this is enacted, even if it isn’t in the end quite the same as either of the current versions. As long as it covers the essentials and is as loophole-free as anyone can make it, then progress will finally have been made.
