RE: Churchgoers forced to pay for parking

Councillor Phil Filmer,

I believe that I am writing to you with the anger of every single churchgoer in Gillingham who has now discovered that they must pay an extortionate amount of money to park when attending Sunday services.

Although I personally am yet to drive, once I have passed my test, I will be among the number of people needing to park in Council car parks in order to attend Church services.

I am a full-time student. I have two Saturday jobs: one where I work once a fortnight, one where I only work on the Saturdays I am needed. If I manage to afford insurance, fuel and any unforeseen maintenance costs I will be doing well.

I would certainly struggle to manage the extra £50 per year I would be charged to worship God!

I just went “off message”
Posted by Alan Collins on Thursday, November 29th, 2007 at 11:54

I have just finished writing a research essay for Government and Politics, in which I argued against the shrinking of the civil service in this Country.

It is completely off message in terms of official Conservative Party policy, but I shall later post an edited version of this essay on this blog - because I feel that the Conservative Party should be careful when promising cuts in bureaucracy.

And I await the barrage of abuse from Conservatives who disagree with my thinking.

Mr Bean goes to Westminster
Posted by Alan Collins on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 at 21:59

A couple of weeks ago I borrowed Mr Smith goes to Washington from the school library, on the recommendation of my Politics teacher.

Well, today Vincent Cable called Gordon Brown Mr Bean (”In a few short weeks the Prime Minister has gone from Stalin to Mr Bean”) and the editor of ConservativeHome mused on the site “MR BEAN GOES TO WESTMINSTER. There’s a mock cinema poster in this somewhere!”.

Well a few people got to work in creating mock posters, which have just been published over at ConHome: “Mr. Bean’s Parliament”, “Mr. Bean’s Prime Minister” and my own effort “Mr. Bean goes to Washington”.

So if you fancy a laugh, head over there and take a look, and I shall leave you with the words of David Cameron in Prime Minister’s Questions today:

“We have had 155 days of this Government: disaster after disaster, a run on a bank, half the country’s details lost in the post and now this. The Prime Minister’s excuses go from incompetence to complacency and there are questions about his integrity. Are not people rightly asking, “Is this man simply not cut out for the job?”"

Controversial Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has finally handed over the reigns of the Pakistan army, after serving a full term whilst still head of the army.

The BBC is reporting that he has handed over the cermonial baton to Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiani in a ceremony in Rawalpindi a day before he is due to be sworn in for his next term.

For anyone who’s interested
Posted by Alan Collins on Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 at 11:19

I just failed my first driving test!

The reasons why are not important. What is important is that I shalln’t be taking it again until February January so you are still safe on the roads.

For now…
