Rehman Chishti attacks Musharraf

Rehman Chishti appeared on BBC News 24 attacking President Musharraf after he declared emergency rule.

I shall bring you more of this later, as I am about to go out and help Cadets sell food for people going to watch the fireworks at the Great Lines, but it sounded to me as though Mr Chishti was authorised by Ms Bhutto to attack Musharraf – and that Ms Bhutto is not far from following suit.

Update 22:15

Rehman Chishti told the BBC that he thinks “these are desperate measures by a desperate man trying to cling to power. And I would certainly say this now puts an end to elections taking place in January. And on that basis, there is no other option than to go on the streets. And one has to look at what happened in Ukraine with the orange revolution. The people power can now prevent President Musharraf from being a supreme dictator.”

Ms Bhutto herself has now spoken of the desperate situation in Pakistan, and was very diplomatic in what she was saying. At the moment, Ms Bhutto is attacking the emergency rule and suspension of the constitution, but she is being careful not to alienate President Musharraf completely in case the Constitution is restored and elections do take place in January – when Ms Bhutto was originally hoping to be elected Prime Minister and strike a power-sharing deal with the President.
