Tracey Crouch’s competition

Many readers of both my site and that of the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Chatham and Aylesford, Tracey Crouch, may today be wondering if she was referring to me in this post.

Well the short answer is yes. On Saturday Miss Crouch launched a small competition on her site, offering “a bottle of champagne to the first person who can tell me the name of the six football clubs and their MPs”, following on from an article in which Tara Hamilton-Miller wrote “[b]efore the last general election there were only six professional football grounds in Conservative constituencies”.

I responded on Wednesday and Miss Crouch recently updated her site, saying “Well done Alan for identifying that the grounds were: Barnet, Bournemouth, Macclesfield, Southend, Brentford and the one that everyone always forgets Nottingham Forest, which is in Ken Clarke’s Rushcliffe constituency!”.

And for those of you concerned about Miss Crouch sending alcohol to a “minor”, you needn’t worry. I shall not be receiving my prize until I turn 18 next month. Which is something to look forward to…

  1. Well done, Alan!

You wrote: “And for those of you concerned about Miss Crouch sending alcohol to a “minor”, you needn’t worry. I shall not be receiving my prize until I turn 18 next month. Which is something to look forward to…”

I expect to be invited to the Grand Opening of this bottle :-)

It’s not illegal for you to drink champagne in your own home with the consent of your parents, Alan, or to receive alcohol as a gift. This isn’t America ;)

  3. Rob says:

And we’re damn lucky it isn’t, that’s all I can say.

  4. Alan Collins says:

It may not be illegal, but if you are shopping for alcohol at Tesco (and you are over 18), then you won’t be served if you are accompanied by someone who is under 18 – even if you happen to be in your 40s/50s and they are your children!

  5. Chris says:

You forgot Chelsea and Fulham both of which are in the Hammersmith and Fulham constituency which was gained at the last GE by Greg Hands MP.

  6. Alan Collins says:

Chris, the competition was to name the clubs who were in Conservative constituencies between 2001 and 2005, of which there were only six. Of course you are correct that Chelsea and Fulham now fall in a Conservative constituency, but only post-2005.

  7. Chris says:

Oh sorry, didn’t realise it was pre-2005 constituenices. Peterborough also now falls withing the Tory fold. Are there any others?

  8. Chris says:

Isn’t Brentford in a Labour seat – Ann Keen’s Brentford and Isleworth?

  9. Rob says:

Have you recieved your prize yet Alan?
