What did I get for Christmas? Seventy Two Virgins

Now, before you start commenting/emailing like crazy to complain, yes I am being serious but no I am not being as literal as you may think.

When I came up with the above line last night, I was reasonably happy with it, but when I finally found time to post some more, I became slightly apprehensive, because I was unsure how tactless it would look sitting above a post about the assassination of one of the greatest female politicians in the world.

In the end, though, I decided that, because I am, of course, talking about the truly remarkable novel by Boris Johnson (what else!), there could be no problem for anyone to understand exactly what I was talking about.

What else did I get for Christmas, then? Well, a lot of Boris, actually. Three written by him, one written about him. In addition to the aforementioned novel (I am yet to reach the part which explains the title, by the way), I was also given Have I Got Views For You and Friends, Voters, Countrymen.

On top of those, I was given The Little Book of Boris, an amusing collection of Boris-isms compiled by leading political blogger Iain Dale. I was also given the 2008 Conservative Party Diary (with the blue cover), the Mock The Week – Too Hot For TV DVD and an amusing personal rant in the form of an A-Z of all things un-PC, How To Be Right by James Delingpole.

My Christmas presents weren’t all political, I must point out. There was my new pride and joy – a Kodak Z710 digital camera, Spooks Series 5 on DVD, selection boxes, socks (oh, yes!) and the ultimate, the best book ever printed, the Holy Bible (the New International Version, that is).

And that ends probably the most selfish post I shall ever write – more unselfish commentary later.
