So, tomorrow…

… I am finally 18!

Even though it seems like only yesterday was New Year’s Day (?!) tomorrow marks the completion of yet another year of my continued existence.

Yes in under two hours (or, if you want to be pedantic, at some unearthly hour of the morning when I shall be preparing for school(!)) I shall turn 18, at last; old enough to drink alcohol, old enough to vote, old enough to stand for election and old enough to finally receive the bottle of champagne from Tracey Crouch (no, I haven’t forgotten)!

Fear not, though, I shall not be getting stereotypically drunk tomorrow, as I shall be at school tomorrow and Friday. However, Friday night is my party, and many different alcoholic liquids may pass my lips.

Who knows…

  1. Congratulations! (and jubilations…)

From here on in life starts getting heavier, though we all seem to grow into it and cope, so the real adventure called “life” now begins in earnest!

  2. Rob says:

    Happy Birthday matey!

Apologies I can’t come to your party, have a good time!

  3. It was a good event; though I suspect you learned something of how difficult public speaking is in reality, even with just (what I assumed to be, earlier this evening) “friendly fire”. Remember this the next time you are in the public gallery at a meeting of the Full Council :-)

I do hope you took my advice and kept reasonably sober, so that you will be able to remember this significant event.

In my case, back in those days 21 was the age when we were given “the key of the door”. My own event was very much lower-key than yours, and not particularly memorable, to be honest, so I am not going to cite that as any kind of example!

Instead, I genuinely wish you all the best for what looks like could turn out to be quite an illustrious future.

Oh, and your Dad is great too!

    Thank you, John.

Despite losing count of how much I had to drink (people kept buying me drinks), I can still remember the entire evening, which is what I had wanted.

Public speaking isn’t exactly my forte, as many of my closest friends are well aware. However, I think I managed my “few” words well, given the insane heckling I have been given to expect from a number of my friends.

I would say I’ll pass on your comment about my Dad, but as he reads this blog, he shall probably see it sometime soon anyway.

And thanks also, Rob. It was a very good night indeed, but I shall explain more in detail on Monday.
