A letter to Network Rail

RE: Network Rail Driver Illegally Driving
To whom it may concern,
I would like to make a complaint about one of your employees, whom I saw illegally driving through Twydall yesterday afternoon.
The male driver was driving along Goudhurst Road whilst using his mobile phone and, it appeared, not wearing a seatbelt (although I cannot be entirely sute of the latter).
I think that it is disgusting that your employees should flout the law and so took the liberty of making a note of the registration of the Network Rail van he was driving, which I would be more than happy to provide if you wish to request this via email.
It may not be my place to say this, but it does not reflect well on you as a company if your employees can be seen to be breaking the law so openly. Thus I suggest that a word with your employees about this might not be a bad idea.
I look forward to a response on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Alan Collins
Update 10/01/08 @ 19:25
I have now received a reply from Network Rail’s Community Relations Department:
Dear Mr. Collins,
Thank you for your email.
We expect anyone working for our company or on our behalf to take into consideration the impact of their actions on the public and to abide by the law. Please rest assured that your comments have been recorded and passed to the relevant department, however if you could provide the date and time of the incident and the registration number will be able to trace the individual.
Regards
Name Supplied
Community Relations
Suffice to say I am currently in the process of providing Network Rail with the requested information.

Stop pestering people. Honestly, no-one cares!
I’m sure NetworkRail have got better things to do (well, you would think so, but judging by the hoo-har at New Year, perhaps not) than listen to you rant on about someone who was using their phone.
Dear Oh Dear.
No-one cares because we are a nation of apathetic people, and as soon as someone decides that they want to be seen to be caring, they are dubbed to be “busy bodies” with nothing better to do.
The fact is, I do have better things to do! However, as a concerned citizen, when I see people not only breaking the law, but also putting themselves and other drivers at risk, the only thing that can be done is to inform the owners of the vehicle that it is being driven illegally and hope they do something about it.
Of course if that fails, then one can also report the incident to the police…
Okay, but are NetworkRail going to do anything? Probably not, they’ll just throw the letter away.
I’m sure you feel like your making a difference, but I doubt it.
No harm in trying though.
It’s funny you should mention that, Rob, as I got a response from the Community Relations Department today (as posted above in the update).
As you said, you don’t know for definite if they will actually do anything about this, but, again as you said, there’s no harm in trying.
I’m impressed and surprised they replied. Nice One.
