Back in July 07, I posted about why I believed the next contest for the United States Presidency should be between Sen John McCain of Arizona and Sen Hillary Clinton of New York.
In the six months that have passed, my opinions have not changed. I still believe that Sen McCain is the best candidate overall to be President, but that, realistically, the Democrats are likely to win, and that Sen Clinton is the best of the Democrats.
It was with jubilation, then, that this morning the Obamacons (a term ConservativeHome has created to describe Conservatives who support Democratic favourite Barack Obama) were put in their place by the people of New Hampshire.
Americans need change, but they can only get that through experience. Sen Clinton went from the White House to the Senate, whereas “Princess Obama“, according to Melanie Phillips, “appears to be on the wrong side of just about every important issue going; indeed, were he to be elected president he would be a danger to the free world. But hey – the guy makes people feel good about themselves; he stands for hope, love, reconciliation, youthfulness and fairies at the bottom of the garden”.
America still has a chance to ensure a healthy mix of experience and change, and New Hampshire has provided both parties hope that their best hopes will yet win the race. Just let’s not believe the fairies at the bottom of the garden will be the ones to ensure it happens!
