You can get it if you really want - the update
Posted by Alan Collins on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 22:25

You can get it if you really want, the £500,000 campaign being run by the Conservatives, has received major advertising space in the national media.
Both The Sun (pictured, right) and The Daily Express (left) ran full-page adverts on page 14, and even the Guardian placed their advert on page 3.
This is an impressive start to the campaign, which needs to attract as much media attention as possible to keep the current momentum going forward, right up until the next general election.

Prince Harry is serving in Afghanistan
Posted by Alan Collins on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 22:13
Good news was leaked irresponsibly by foreign media that Prince Harry has been fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan since arriving on Christmas Eve.
The British media were given unprecedented access to Harry during his time in Afghanistan, under the understanding that they would report nothing until his return to Britain.
However, it seems foreign media websites were more interested in the story than the safety of the third in line to the throne and broke the news, harking back to the events leading up to the death of Princess Diana in 1997.
David Cameron said “Like all the troops currently fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan Harry has been incredibly brave. He has pursued his desire to get on the front line and serve his country with huge determination and courage. I applaud the British press for not breaking the story and risking his life and others around him.”
Dr Liam Fox, the Conservative Defence Spokesman, added “It’s clear he wanted to do his duty and to carry out the work he was trained for. He is a brave young man amongst many brave men and women who are putting life and limb on the line for the security of our country. We are proud of them all.”

You can get it if you really want (unless it happens to involve driving!)
Posted by Alan Collins on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 11:29

The Conservative Party has spent £500,000 on an upbeat advertising campaign labeled “You can get it if you really want”, complete with the song of the same name by Jimmy Cliff.
The campaign was launched yesterday, with a video made by Hollywood director/producer Matthew Vaughan, of Layer Cake and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame.
The campaign is remarkably upbeat and impressive, focusing on important issues including immigration, the economy, the environment and education.
I must say I find the title most appropriate - especially seeing as how I just failed my driving test (again!).
Still, failure means you’re a learner, not a loser! I just wish learning didn’t cost quite so much…

This infantile stunt shows how much of a joke the Lib Dems have become
Posted by Alan Collins on Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 at 18:49
A lot can be said about the local Liberal Democrats: some good, some bad. However, when it comes to their Parliamentary counterparts, they appear to be mature, compliant angels.
My comment comes after disgusting scenes in the House of Commons today, in which a Lib Dem MP was thrown out for refusing to recognise the authority of the Deputy Speaker Sir Michael Lord.
Pettily, immaturely, revoltingly, obnoxiously, repulsively, monstrously, even outrageously Edward Davey refused to shut up and sit down, instead arguing with Sir Michael, wasting valuable time on an issue completely irrelevant to the business of the House at that time.
He was given adequate warning, but ignored them all, which led to him being thrown out. Then, as a ghastly stunt, his colleagues on the Lib Dem benches proceeded to vacate the House of Commons, rather immaturely, bowing out of the debate at the time.
Thankfully, it achieved nothing. Well, except for evidence of how Nick Clegg has “shuttled from the sublime to the ridiculous at supersonic speed” and how laughable an “alternative” the Lib Dems are nationally.
So Andy (Stamp, that is), do yourself a favour. Don’t waste your talents trying to associate yourself with that lot. Stay in Medway Council where you belong, fighting for local issues of local importance.
At least locally, here in Medway, the Lib Dems still have some respect!
