Yup, Alan, I surmised as such: hence the “As it happens” rather than (say) “Have you forgotten that…?”

As for our local LibDems, by and large they aren’t all that bad, and I get on with all of them — something I cannot say about the Labour Group(!)

Hmm, well I wasn’t aware of this fact, John. It was obviously before I got heavily interested in local politics (which was, in itself, just a few months before the local elections).

I don’t believe that it changes my conclusion much, though. I’d still rather the Lib Dem Parliamentary Party were full of the Cracks, Kearneys, Smiths and Stamps than the lot currently being ridiculed in the House of Commons.

As it happens, a few months before Andy Stamp was elected to Medway Council, the LibDem councillors at the time walked out of a Council meeting (as did the Labour Group) while a Portfolio Holder (Cllr Les Wicks) was addressing the meeting.

This was one example of the bad behaviour of Opposition Members that prompted the Standards Committee to call in the Group Leaders a few months ago and give them a strong talking-to.

I believe that this Committee might soon have the power to suspend badly-behaved Members for limited periods, so I think it is high time that certain of our local politicians also learned appropriate behaviour.

Hear! Hear! I agree totally with what your saying Alan. The Lib Dems have completely showed themselves up and have no chance whatsoever of becoming a credible opposition anytime soon!
