Bureaucratic Britain
Posted by Alan Collins on Monday, March 31st, 2008 at 07:14
I shall (later on today) be writing a post about last week, which has to have been the oddest week of my life.
I did intend to post it last night, however I was busy trying to decipher and complete the 23-page form PN1 (Application for Student Finance, on top of which four pages must be completed by the parents) until an unspeakable hour in the evening.
Now, I can understand their need to be concise, that they need to know as much as possible in order to allow for payments to be just, but I do fail to see how absolutely every question is necessary, nor why the applicant is asked to repeat certain things as they move through the form.
Just another day in Brown’s Bureaucratic Britain, I suppose. As if we weren’t wasting enough paper in this Country already…

Pages back online
Posted by Alan Collins on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at 08:04
It has taken two days, but finally I now have all my pages back online - I think!
There are about sixty pages, and as far as I am aware, I have now managed to get them all back working.
If you find any of the links broken, however, please highlight them here or email (alan@alanwcollins.co.uk) and I shall fix it as soon as possible.
Once again, apologies for any inconvenience caused over the past two days.

Please bear with me

Something odd has just happend to my website.
All of a sudden all of my pages have turned themselves into posts - meaning the links on the right are now broken.
This could not have happened at a worse time, as I am working hard with schoolwork, but I shall endeavour to fix the problem as soon as possible.
Apologies for any inconveniences caused.

A day in the life - Tuesday, March 25, 2008

This would probably be the right time to point out that, although I continued with my word to provide you with an account of my day, today was anything but ordinary. After all, it isn’t every day a Councillor on your patch resigns in a controversial media storm.

I have been up for about half an hour. I have eaten breakfast, and am looking for more media reaction on the John Ward saga. Strangely, the Medway Standard has nothing. Maybe this isn’t as big as I thought. Maybe it will blow over a lot more quickly.

It’s Tuesday, so it was assembly day. All thoughts of politics were pushed from my mind as AM gave a truly inspirational assembly about Brian May, the Queen guitarist. After thoughts last night about my future, it made me realise I don’t need to put all my eggs in one basket.
Two free periods first up - and I’m spending them wisely doing Spanish work. AB has given us several hours’ worth of work to do, and I doubt I’ll have it all finished in time, but hey ho, I won’t if I don’t get back to it.
