Talking about weighing things up
Last night, I spoke about weighing up the reasons why the Dockyard closure was beneficial to Medway.
Well that gave me an idea. “I know”, I thought, “I can now go and weigh myself”. Bad mistake, as it turned out. Although in the last week I have managed to lose a whole pound (yes, I have checked behind the fridge), I still weigh a crushing 17st 13lb!
So, I have decided that something needs to be done, and soon! However, I am not just going to say, I am going to lose me some weight, and then do nothing. I am going to create an incentive, and help out a worthwhile cause at the same time. In five weeks, I am going to turn 14 pounds of fat into (hopefully) many more pounds for Help for Heroes.
It won’t be easy, but it will be worthwhile all round. With the help of an RAF fitness program and a very good (and brave) friend, I believe that I can lose at least one stone in my last five weeks at school (that is a scary thought – only five weeks left once this holiday is over!). And hopefully I can follow it up with a year of different fundraising events and activities for H4H, culminating in a very special event next April (all hush-hush at the moment, though – in the very early planning stages!).
If you wish to donate towards the cause (I shall keep you up-to-date on here, of course, as the weeks go on), you can do so securely via my page on Justgiving, which transfers the money directly to H4H. And help me support our Armed Forces in every way possible.

Wow. A slim, hunkier Alan will be a bomb with the ladies!!
As you well know, I am always in high demand, mostly due to my lack of fat and excess cool-ness.
17st 13lb?!? You’re only 9lb lighter than The Rock’s billed weight (well, mass)?!?
Also, as a physics student, your use of “weight” is disappointing.
You go get those pecs and abs!
Rob, I used the term weight, rather than the technically correct term mass, because it is more easily recognisable to people.
It’s not going to be easy to lose as much weight as I need to (and get fit again), but I have the incentive of raising money for charity to get me started.
Last time I tried to lose weight, I went from 16st 4lb to 14st 13lb in a time frame I have since forgotten. But at that time I had low discipline and the guy “helping” me was always being called into work, which meant that our weekly runs happened only sporadically.
And what makes you believe that I am not already a “bomb with the ladies”, or indeed in high demand? Oh you of many girlfriends…?
It’s quality, not quantity, mate. That’s all that matters!
