RSH: Candidates’ campaigns so far
It’s official, the Rochester South and Horsted by-election will be a straight race between the three main parties, as UKIP, the BNP, the English Democrats and all unaligned independents have decided against fielding candidates. It turns out that the BNP and the Green Party are also fielding Candidates. Apologies for the inaccuracy.

Trevor Clarke is the Conservative Party’s candidate and long-term RSH resident. His campaign so far is focusing on the fantastic work the current conservative councillors have been doing in areas such as education and crime.

Vivienne Parker is the Liberal Democrat’s candidate and twice failed RSH hopeful, coming 7th in 2007 and 2003. Her campaign so far is focusing on the comments made on John Ward’s website, quoting a Daily Mail article.

Adam Price is the Labour Party’s candidate with little prior knowledge of RSH. His campaign so far has involved canvassing the area and talking to residents about Robert Bean Lodge in Pattens Lane.
Over the next couple of weeks I shall continue to monitor the campaigns and report back as accurately as possible. However, from what I can see so far, it is only the Conservative candidate who is local, focusing on important issues affecting RSH residents and not resorting to personal attacks.

Three main parties plus green and BNP are standing.
Thank you for letting me know, AJ666.
I was going by the information I had at the time. Medway Council had not put the Statement as to persons nominated on their website at that time, and I had heard from another source that only the three main parties had put up candidates.
Much the same here. I have now updated my own ‘blog article HERE.
Lib Dem’s to win!
Julia – thank you for your valuable contribution, however the chances that the Lib Dems will win the election are remote.
If you take a look at the 2003 and 2007 election results, you will see that the Lib Dems have consistently been in third place in Rochester South and Horsted.
Not only that, but that they would have to overcome a deficit of 893 votes (the difference between the lowest polling Conservative in 2007 and the highest polling Lib Dem, who just happens to be Viv Parker).
I would suggest that this is going to be a Conservative hold, but they’re going to have to fight hard for it.
The LibDems’ method so far has been essentially negative (which most of the people of this ward don’t appreciate) and claiming that they have achieved things that in fact I did (and have the records to prove it).
They are not liked here, because they never really supported local residents’ wishes and always pursued their own agenda instead. When that became public knowledge, their vote slumped and has been in decline ever since. Only by concentrating efforts in the heartland of Gillingham were they able to retain any seats at all on Medway Council — just a quarter of the number held by the Conservatives.
They are in reality non-entities playing games in a grown-ups’ world, and the public-at-large known this very well. If there had been any remaining doubt, their “star player” Brian Paddick showed their true nature both in televised debates and after the London Mayoral declaration. He behaved like an ungracious spoilt brat, and it showed to an acutely embarrassing degree.
I can assure your readers that it is exactly the same here, as anyone who has seen behind the public mask could also confirm.

Your link to Sylvia (in the page you link to in your above comment) doesn’t work, because you have incorrectly named the page (in your link) as “councillor-sylvia-brice” IU’m not sure how husband Brian Griffin will take this news that his good lady is now Mrs Nick
Ooh dear, how sloppy of me
I don’t know how I’ve gone so long without realising it (especially as I usually test every link before the pages go live), but it has now bee corrected.
Horsted True Blue,
I think we can win this very easily if The Lib Dems and Labour continue with their camapaging tactics.
