New Mayor of Medway elected

Alan Collins congratulates Cllr David Carr on his election as Mayor of Medway
Rainham North Councillor David Carr has been officially elected Mayor of Medway, at the Annual Meeting of the Full Council.
Cllr Carr took over from Cllr Val Goulden, who has served Medway fantastically over the past year, at the meeting at the Corn Exchange in Rochester last night.
Over the coming year, Cllr Carr will have to perform a good few hundred duties, beginning with an official photo shoot today and then the Medway Rugby Club’s Annual Dinner on Friday.
I believe that Cllr Carr is an excellent choice of Mayor, a position elected from and by Medway’s 55 councillors, and have no doubt that he will undertake his duties professionally, independently* and with great enthusiasm.
* The Mayoralty is a non-partisan position, so I have refrained from referring to Cllr Carr’s political group and will continue to do so for the duration of the Municipal year.

I am pleased to hear of changes at the top and I wish the new Mayor all the very best.
Especially if he can provide some movement to the issues involved with the old Wingets (Aveling and Porter work office) building in Strood. This included in the site of the old civic centre and car park . Which we have been informed by the council is to be sold off to make way for a new Building site. We ask, surely this building should be presearved as a local historical site. Part of the Medway heritage. Could we have some reasurances as to the future in this field.
Also what is the fate of the Medway Archives centre. Where , What and when. Is it to hear of its forthcoming move. May I be so bold as to suggest. That the two issues could be settle at a stroke. Saving the Rate payer a lot of expence. The move just accross the car park seems ideal
