Medway’s first Tennis Academy could be built in Twydall

Twydall could be the location for Medway’s first Tennis Academy, if a developer is found and an agreement reached with the government.

At a meeting of Medway Council’s Conservative Cabinet last Tuesday, it was decided that, rather than another soccer academy, Beechings Cross in Cornwallis Avenue should be part-developed into a Tennis Academy.

The land is owned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and is currently used for occasional boot fairs and training and matches for Rainham Eagles, a local football team who will be consulted on any proposals.

It will be up to the DCSF to decide whether or not half the land can be used to build a new Tennis Academy, however half the land would still be available for soccer use.

The search is now on to find a developer.
