Paul Clark publishes videos from “the public” … i.e. his daughter
Paul Clark has been out and about on the streets of Medway gathering the views of residents and then posting some of them in video form on his website.
A few days ago I received Mr Clark’s “Gillingham and Rainham Report”, in which he claimed “I have my own TV channel on my website. The channel lets people see the events I go to, the meetings I attend, and allows me to more personally interact with you. I am the only Member of Parliament who currently runs such a regularly update service.”
Now that may be very noble of Mr Clark. However, he fails to mention anywhere that (at least) two of the subjects of his videos are quite close to his campaign.
In fact, one video even features Mr Clark’s daughter (though there is no mention of this anywhere in the video, on Mr Clark’s YouTube account or his website) answering the question “what more can Labour do to improve your area?”.
It seems that although his leader may not be about to parade his family about for political ends, Mr Clark has no shame in promoting his own daughter … under the pretence of being a “member of the public” without acknowledgement that she is his own flesh and blood.

Whilst this is interesting and reflecting of perhaps the culture of spin I dont think its fair game to go after an individuals child.
Just because you are a son and daughter of a politician doesnt discount you from adding your own opinions to the future of where you live.
Unlike Mr Brown and Mr Camerons children, she is able to make her own judgement on whether to undertake an interview. Mr Camerons / Mr Browns children are not as they are too young and hence are subject to parental judgement. Clear difference.
rainhamphil, I did not mean to suggest that Miss Clark (or anyone in a similar position) should be discounted from holding and expressing an opinion.
My point was that there is quite clearly an interest here – i.e. the subject of the video isn’t just any member of the public, but a member of the public who also happens to be the video author’s daughter.
Surely in the interests of fighting the culture of spin, such a declaration of interest should be made?
No – I agree with that. Its questionable judgement and you are right to mention it. Just be careful as its doesnt advance anyones cause, bringing family into anything, is always a pandora’s box!
In a sense we both agree.
Well spotted. What he’s done is dishonest. I would ask him to remove or relabel the material in question. If he refuses, a quick note to the local paper or even a national might be in order.
