Near-chaos at Woolworths

The Woolworths store in Twydall Green has seen lengthy queues and packed aisles as customers try to make the most of Woolworths’ “biggest ever sale”.

No doubt the scenes are being reproduced across the country as administrators Deloitte slash up to 50% off products just three weeks before Christmas.

The Press Association are reporting that Theo Pathitis, of the BBC’s Dragons’ Den, had his bid, which would have seen the retention of the Woolworths name, rejected by Deloitte. He said it is likely a break-up of the business would be more profitable for creditors.

Additional stock and staff have been drafted into stores to deal with the (greatly) increased demand due to the sale, which will continue until the company has been bought.

Sadly, though, I fear that this will not be Woolworths’ biggest ever sale. That will come when the new owners launch the “closing down sale” in many, if not all, stores.
