BlackBerry not CrackedBerry
Those of you who have seen me wandering around using my BlackBerry? wireless device since September will have noticed the giant crack in the screen.
Indeed even John Ward coined the phrase “CrackedBerry” when he saw the device at the David Cameron even last month.
I had, I thought, two options: either get the phone repaired through O2 or through my insurance, which was provided by my bank account (I am with Smile).
O2 said they’d look at it for about ?20, and charge me whatever else it would cost to repair it. The insurance route would have cost me ?25 excess.
So that was it. I was resigned to having a CrackedBerry purely because I did not want to spend so much on repairing a phone which was damaged just one month after I had received it.
Then, whilst browsing through eBay, I saw the solution. For ?6.98, I could have a new screen, with tools, shipped over from Hong Kong and repair the device myself. So I did.
The screen came today and has now been replaced. My best friend noticed in about ten minutes, my girlfriend noticed in about two minutes. My best mate’s brother, who works in a phone shop, noticed as soon as he saw it.
