Thinking aloud

I am just thinking aloud here – so don’t think for a second I am accusing anyone of anything, but I struck upon a thought earlier.

Paul Clark’s website is being run by Mr Clark and his Parliamentary hand Tom Davis – who is paid for by the taxpayer and thus must remain politically impartial.

Now his posts on Mr Clark’s website are (apart from a comment he made whilst on unpaid leave, which is also perfectly within the rules). However, the URL for Mr Clark’s website is labourisworking.com.

I was wondering if it was acceptable for a taxpayer-funded employee, who is supposed to be politically impartial, to be posting and helping to run a website with such a partisan URL?

I’m just curious, and hope someone can help me out here…

Chris Irvine (whom you have met) has been having a bit of a contre-temps with Tom in the last week or so, and you might see a letter from him about this in the local press any time now.

The set-up over there at the Clark site is distinctly odd, and I too have wondered about the site URL ? indeed I am uncomfortable with and about it. I think you might have hit on something that falls into the category of “unintended consequences”, and it will be interesting to discover what implications might come to light from your assertion.

Meanwhile, you and your readers ? especially those in Gillingham or Rainham ? might be interested in what Chris has written about Clark’s expenses (and those of the other Medway Labour MPs) and in particular his mileage claims and their significance, at Strood Conservatives.

Today Paul Clark’s site has been found hacked by "Red Virus", although at least my recent comment is still visible/accessible, which is the most important consideration :-)
