Even the best of us get it wrong

When I saw this article on Tuesday, I was tempted to feature it on Legal Leanings, before deciding that the story wasn’t particularly important.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I turned to page nine of yesterday’s (Wednesday) Sun and saw the thug’s photograph splashed across the page with the headline ‘Welfare crate‘.

Apparently the aptly-named Nicky Welfare, 21 from Strood, is on the dole, yet still managed to drink 24 cans of Stella Artois every day.

He appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on criminal damage charges, where Judge Philip Statman called him ‘a walking advertisement’ for those arguing that alcohol is far too cheap.

Just goes to show that maybe I shouldn’t be so hasty in dismissing a potential story!
