Yet more police inaction … is anyone surprised?

I’m not normally one for blasting those who work for our public services, but yet again I’m passed a story from a reliable local source and, to be quite frank, with the examples of police inaction I’m racking up, I’m getting quite pissed off (excuse my French).

I mean what exactly are these unaccountable do-nothings being paid for? They’re constantly being berated for not being out on the streets – yet when they’re in the police station they still seem unable to even pick up a phone and contact victims of crime.

If you’re wondering what this is about, then please allow me to explain.

At some point last night, though most likely between 02:00 and 07:00 this morning, two cars parked in Goudhurst Road were broken into. One of them, a black Skoda, belonged to my source.

Upon realising that the vehicle had been broken into – and several items had been taken – they did what most people in their situation would do and called the police. My source said this was about 07:15.

When I last spoke to them at just gone 15:00, they were still waiting for a call from the police.

So if you have any details of the incident, I could give you the police number, but to be honest you’d probably have just as much luck if you told me instead.

And your council tax doesn’t keep going up because of me…

Update 8/5/09 @ 00:30

Having still heard nothing back from the police (besides a call from the ‘fingerprints woman’ – who stated that, at the time she made the call, it was too late to be able to get prints!), my source is now considering another tactic often used by people who have been failed by services they are paying to maintain and contact the local media.

    Alan,
Unfortunately this is the norm now.Of the dozens of crimes I have reported over recent times I can’t recall ever having received a prompt response from the police. The most frightening incident was when my 17 year old daughter was physically assaulted by drunken yobs. My wife was in the garden with my our grandchildren when the yobs came down the alley shouting obscene language, she politely asked them to tone down their language because the grandchildren were present. They reacted by turning their abuse on my wife at which point my daughter went out to remonstrate with them. They then attacked my daughter and proceeded to throw beer cans at the windows whilst shouting further abuse. The Police had no-one available to attend the incident but incredibly rang us back 24 hours later to ask if the offenders were still on site!!We did manage to get an apology fro the police but what use is an apology after the event.
To make matters worse local residents later received a letter from Inspector Simon Alland (Kent Police)informing residents how well they were doing in tackling crime and it was perception of crime that was the problem because crime was falling.
I took the trouble of writing to Inspector Alland listing some of the incidents and pointing out that the list of crime reference numbers I had in front of me were very real. I never received a reply
