Rainham Mark teachers ‘targeted by cyber-bullies’
Teachers at Rainham Mark Grammar School have apparently come under attack by ‘cyber-bullies’.
Pupils at the selective school – one of the highest-performing secondary schools in Medway – have set up a Facebook quiz for fun, Yourmedway revealed today.
After answering a series of questions, the quiz would then tell you which Rainham Mark teacher you were most like – Dr Bit-David, Mr Pearce, Mr Gascoyne or Miss Legon.
No-one at the school, situated in Twydall ward, was available to speak to Yourmedway reporters, but John Walder, Secretary of Kent National Union of Teachers did provide his opinions.
‘This kind of thing is one step along a road no-one wants to go down,’ he stated. ‘Pupils are increasingly using Facebook, message boards and chat rooms for this type of activity. The trouble is that young people up to the age of 16 do not know how to distinguish between what they should and should not do.’
A Medway Council spokesman said that ‘We take bullying very seriously, whether it involves children or members of staff.
‘Schools have no control over what information is shared by staff and pupils on the internet during their own time, but everyone is reminded that comments they share on social networking sites could constitute as bullying, which is not acceptable.’
