LW: Lib Dems’ Allanach creates website

The Liberal Democrat’s candidate in Luton and Wayfield has set up a website.

Gary Allanach, a lawyer, had his domain name registered on 23 July. His website, though not as aesthetically-advanced as Labour’s Sam Whittington’s, focuses on a range of more issues and tries to be more personal to voters.

Mr Allanach is aiming to be open and honest with voters, and to communicate with them on a semi-regular basis, including an annual report of his activities.

Interesting. Although ? as for the Labour candidate’s website ? it is just a one-way facility (what I call a “mouthpiece site”) ? and although technically it isn’t as well put together as Labour’s, I do at least get the feeling that it is talking more to the voters than at them.

He is still taking the simplistic “knock the Tories” line 9among others) which shows a lack of understanding of *why* some things are as they are, but that’s politics for you!

I have a feeling that this Allanach fellow will be well worth watching: I sense potential there for the future. Although he is unlikely to win this seat this time, and one wouldn’t realistically expect him to do so (though stranger things have happened!), he could do better at the full Council elections nearly two years from now if he re-stands at that time.

In the meantime, he’ll have to work very hard to establish a visible LibDem “presence” and track record in Luton and Wayfield ? an area they have virtually ignored for many years; so he will need to build up a reputation for actually doing something, not just spouting off as the residents there might well conclude in their sum total to date.
