AlanWCollins: First for News
During the ongoing restyling of AlanWCollins, I have tried to emphasise as far as possible in the layout and content the direction this site is heading in.
Stictly speaking, AlanWCollins aims to bring politically-themed news from across Medway, as well as general news from Twydall, and achieves this by collating the key facts and quotes from a number of local – and occasionally national – news sources.
Even more occasionally, however, a news item will originate from this humble blogger in his small bedroom on his mid-range, mid-quality laptop.
Well tonight (technically this morning) I cheated in that regard. The second the Luton and Wayfield by-election results were published on the Medway Council website, they were published here – ahead of all other Medway news sources and bloggers I could find.
That’s not to say that this is some kind of competition, of course. If it was deemed as such, then I would have pushed harder to get this blog higher than 92 in the Total Politics Top 100 Conservative Blogs.
It just gives a blogger such a thrill once in a while to be the first on an important story – particularly when much of the campaign news itself has come from elsewhere!
What is interesting to note, however, is that Yourmedway promised its readers that the results would be on their website once confirmed, and told them to check on there from 10pm.
It’s 2am the morning after, and still no results…

I do agree that, although it isn’t really a contest to be “first” with any particular item of news or whatever, one does feel chuffed at being first.
As far as last night’s by-election result was concerned, I had an agent at the Count who let me know the result at 1.07 am. I posted first the initial result just under ten minutes later, then added the full details when they were disclosed. The date stamp on the Council web page is 0125 hrs.
I was also monitoring the YourMedway site for the promised news, and can only conclude that they weren’t willing to pay their correspondent after (say) midnight ? so, when the recounts started, I suspect that was the end of that!
