Twydall to become 20mph?

Medway Council is opening for public consultation plans to improve Twydall which include turning the area into a 20mph zone.

The proposals, contained within the ironically-titled Twydall accessibility project, come as part of a raft of new measures aimed at slowing traffic – and increasing safety for young children in Twydall’s primary schools.

However, some say that the measures go too far, even claiming (unsubstantiated at the moment, I’m afraid, but this author is still digging!) that 20mph zones are legally unenforceable, thus the many speed “cushions” and roundabounts planned for the area.

You can see them for yourself at Twydall library from next week. Responses to the consultation must be received by Friday, 23 October.

Seems like another total waste of money to me They don’t enforce the current 30M.P.H limit at the moment so the occasional idiot that drives up our road (Eastcourt Lne) at high speed (usually late at night) is hardly likely to observe the new limit.
The biggest problem local resident face s is the congestion caused by the school run. As for ‘speed cushions’ they are known to cause breakage of coil springs on car suspensions, I was unlucky enough to find out when a spring broke on of the ‘cushions’ ‘in Twydall Lane , this resulted in the broken spring shredding the front tyre and causing a blowout.I suppose the object of the exercise is to address a problem but Im’e not sure what the problem is.
I suppose calling them ‘cushions’ is supposed to make them more acceptable to motorists.

Total expensive overkill – a 20mph speed limit on Beechings Way? Enforce the 30mph speed limit, add another island and speed hump by Thamesview Schools and by the Beechings Playing Fields and you have it sorted.

How can you reduce the width of Twydall Lane, how will the shopping centre survive if delivery vehicles find it impossible to get there. Will buses have to slim down to get through the estate?

Total joke from a Council department who are utterly clueless – sort it out!!
