Poppy appeal vandal apologises for offensive act
The protestor who vandalised Poppy Appeal posters has apologised for causing offence, but defended their actions.
In an anonymous email to Medway’s newspapers, the perpetrator said that they had not meant ‘to dishonour anyone, Blair excluded’, but went on to say that they ‘don’t consider rewording the poster to be an act of vandalism’.
The letter, of which the full text can be seen on the Yourmedway website, was signed ‘sadly anonymous’ and, according to today’s News, came from an email account with the name ‘Bill Posters’.
The Royal British Legion expressed their anger at how their campaign had been hijcaked by a political protest, but the vandal does not ‘think that it will have adversely impacted on the fundraising efforts of the Poppy Appeal’, which has already raised in excess of ?1 million.
Alan Collins, a Royal British Legion member, also expressed his anger at the act, saying that ‘[t]he fact that these people have manipulated the Poppy Appeal campaign for their own political protest is, quite frankly, disgusting’.
Kent Police are investigating the incident, and have been sent a copy of the email.
