Medway Councillor Nicholas Brice has been expelled from the Conservative Group after an being caught trying to pick up a prostitute.
The Rochester South and Horsted councillor was caught by police on 2 November last year, and was given a conditional caution after admitting the offence of kerb crawling in Rochester.
At present, no formal announcement has been made as to whether Cllr Brice will join the Independent group or resign, although a source told AlanWCollins that the latter is more likely.
“Despite this recent event, Nick is a decent enough person,” the source said. “The decent thing to do would be to resign. He may not, but I doubt he’ll find friendship in Tony and Val Goulden.”
The leader of the Conservative Group, Cllr Rodney Chambers, expelled Cllr Brice after the incident came to his intention.
“The Leader and members of the Conservative Group on Medway Council believes that all elected members should demonstrate and uphold the highest standards in public office and public life,” he said.
“A serious matter has arisen concerning Cllr Nick Brice’s private conduct outside of the council and as a consequence of this the Conservative Group has taken the decision to expel Cllr Brice from membership of the group with immediate effect.”
Cllr Brice has become the third councillor to be caught up in a scandal since the last local elections in 2007.
In 2008, John Ward, also a Conservative councillor for Rochester South and Horsted, resigned after making “offensive” comments on his website.
And last year, Dennis McFarlane, formerly a Labour councillor, precipitated a major shift in Luton and Wayfield, where his resignation sparked an eventful by-election campaign which started with three Labour councillors and finished with none.

Just for the record, and especially for newer readers here who might not know: I was able to prove, using non-falsifiable graphic data, that I was caught out for a Blogger software bug that resulted in a partially-composed draft being posted without my having realised what had happened.
Even so, it did open up a debate far better and wider than I had ever anticipated(!)
Why do figures in the public eye have to resort to ‘kerb crawling’ to get their kicks? Surely it is easy enough these days to be more discreet, there are plenty of ‘adult’ pages offering this type of service in local papers.
