Rainham North Councillor David Carr has been elected to be the next Mayor of Medway.

At the Conservative Group Meeting held on March 3, Cllr Carr was elected to be Mayor, along with Cllr Ted Baker of Rochester, a previous Mayor, who was elected to be the Deputy Mayor.

David said “I will be seeking to influence all those who can make Medway a better place to live - to remove litter from our streets, graffiti fromour walls and the increasing incidence of crime”.

Gillingham and Rainham Association Chairman, Brigita Amey, congratulated David and said that she would be certain that he would aquit his role with dignity which would refelect on the whole of the Medway community.

Members of the group celebrated his election at the Conservative Upper Club and David will take office in May.

Conservative Councillors go green

RAINHAM North Councillors Vaughan Hewett and David Carr were so enthused by David Cameron’s efforts to make the Conservative Party and their Councils green, that they have bought all 33 Medway Conservative Councillors an energy saving light bulb so that they are the greenest group of councillors in Medway.

They gave bulbs as gifts to their colleagues at a group meeting held Monday, July 2 at the Strood Civic Centre.

Age Concern Gillingham Flower Festival

COUNCILLOR Vaughan Hewett (Rainham North) and BBC South East reporter Rob Smith were at the opening of Age Concern’s Flower Festival, which ran from Monday 14th May through to Friday 18th May 2007.

The Age Concern centre in Woodlands Road, Gillingham (Twydall) held the flower festival to raise money to buy a 50 inch plasma television screen to show films for their day members. The sale of plants along with garden ornaments and cream teas was the start of fund raising events to reach their objective.
